Picking A Design

In order to pick a design that’s right for you, you need to evaluate your needs. Those needs are going to depend on the space that you want to fill and then you can go from there. I’d say the most important factor here though, is height. That’s the hardest part when it comes to any type of restaurant furniture being repurposed for a home. You can never find the piece that fits just right. Since you’re building this yourself, you can make the stool fit just right.

Now, there are plenty of sites out there where you can find good examples to base your counter stools design off of. You can also just do a simple google image search and see what you can find. Either way, pick something that’s right for you.

What You Need

There are a wide variety of materials that you can use to build your stool. Of course, what you use is going to depend on the design you settle on. Typically, bar stools can be made up of the following materials.

Where to get supplies

You should be able to get all of these supplies at your local hardware store or arts and crafts store. Some of these are obviously harder to make then others, so finding materials may be a little tricky depending on the design you pick. It doesn’t hurt to look into places such as restaurant and bar supply stores for spare items. Also, get creative. Hit up your favorite watering hole and see if they have any old stools you can use for spare parts. That is also a great way to refurbish a stool you may have seen at a bar and wanted to recreate, but that’s for another article.

So that should be everything you need to get started on your own set of bar or counter stools. Below are some education videos and liks for reference. Happy building!
